This Pioneer Mormon cabin in Garden City, Bear Lake Utah was "found" and is reportedly a haunted cabin. It was built by homesteaders sometime in the late 1800's. The cabin was built onto and over by another larger structure that enveloped and preserved it, until it was "found" in the 1990's. A new home had already been built behind this old one,so the new owner used it for storage for a while, then decided to get rid of it.He placed it on E-Bay with the stipulation that it is to be moved off the land,to another site. I won the bid then found out most of it's history from the owners, past occupants, neighbors, newspaper articles and other sources, and some of the stories I heard were kind of scary. Could this log cabin be a Haunted Cabin at Bear Lake Utah?
Some of the things I found out were very interesting, possibly even disturbing. This included the possible death of the cabin builders wife during childbirth, as per a Rich County Times newspaper article from 1896. It was a tragic event thought to have been by Satan's hand or as the newpaper article says that "the little home was now rendered desolate by the hand of the Destroyer". After William Morris Hodges's wife died in the cabin on 08-25-1896 and the grief that followed, he deserted the cabin for a period of time. It's occupancy after this is diverse, but he, his family and many other residents of this 125 year old cabin may still reside within it's walls according to some of the stories over the years, there has been much reported tragedy in this "HAUNTED CABIN"
I can't ask any of the original occupants, but I was able to speak to others that lived in the house over the years and as odd as it is,they didn't realize there was an old cabin within the walls of their home. They knew the walls were extra thick, and "it was warmer in that part of the house",but not till it was dismantled in the 1990's did anyone know of the old cabin underneath it. Some of the families that have lived in the building since 1915 claim that it is a haunted cabin, possibly by the husband, looking for his family. Others say that there is an "old woman" in a rocking chair seen on occasion, maybe waiting for her children, Others have mentioned children's voices and steps up and down the stairwell plus all kinds of other unexplained noises, and then theres the bats, lots and lots of big bats in the small upper attic space
Consider these stories and photos on the next pages and see if you believe if it's haunted cabin,,,many of the family and neighbors that have been around this cabin asked me not to tell their story, so I had to leave out some of the neat history.
Sightings from children and adults have ranged from "dark ghostly figures", "faces" to "movements and noises" One recent photo in the stairwell seems to have a face in it. I don't know, I took this photo with my cell phone (not seeing it)and my wife pointed out the face later,,,,is it just light and shadows, or more? If it wasn't for all the stories, I would have never given it a second thought, but it does kind of look like a "pointy head".
I've got doubts about all this, but also questions, does anyone know if spirits move with the building, or do they stay put on site? This Haunted Cabin may be investigated by a Utah Paranormal Team while were starting to move it, so will this disturb "THEM". Please contact me with your comments, but first read the stories and look at the photos and interior shots on the next pages and see if you believe???
